Easy Exercises to Learn Blackjack Basic Strategy

Basic strategy is a key difference between blackjack players who are just in the game for the fun of it and those who are in the game to make money out of it. We all get excited in the idea that we can reduce the house edge in blackjack by practicing basic strategy. But when we see the long strategy tables we sometimes get discouraged and the excitement may fade.

Nobody said that learning basic strategy is easy. Those who have gone through the drill of memorizing each piece of different basic strategy charts will have spent hours of repetitious memorization drills. The end product or goal, of course, can be reached, but every good thing will have a price.

We can always make our practice sessions more fun if we want to. Sometimes varying the drills will also help alleviate the boredom some people experience. After all, who can stand staring at a table full of numbers for countless hours when all you ever wanted to do was to learn blackjack? Truth be told, the basic strategy learning process also becomes a refiner of players.

The players who really want to learn it will also learn patience along the way. They will also learn to become consistent in their decisions and not be carried by the wind of excitement next time they're at a blackjack table. Even if you've lost in a row when you hit when you're supposed to, next time you're supposed to hit then hit no matter what. Consistency, like patience, is a virtue that one must learn to gain the advantage of blackjack basic strategy.

One great suggestion that might appeal to some players is to use flash cards when they try to memorize blackjack strategy charts. Flashcards can easily be made using cardboard or pieces of paper. One side will have the cards in your hand written on it (one side of the basic strategy table) and the correct moves on the other side of the paper or card.

Another good suggestion will be to have half of the strategy chart blank for you to fill out. Some people find it easier to reconstruct a table they've seen beforehand.

Still, others may want a more practical approach like having the basic strategy table on the side and then shuffle a deck of cards and deal for both themselves and the dealer. They would then make a decision according to what they recall on the strategy chart and then they would look at the chart to see if they made the correct move.

You can even make up your own exercise to learn blackjack basic strategy. The important point is to make the experience interesting. Pretty soon you'll have it all in your head and the correct blackjack moves will come naturally.
